Novecin contains Ofloxacin which belongs to a group of medicines called quinolone antibiotics. Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that can be used to treat a variety of different infections. These include infections of the chest (respiratory system) such as pneumonia and bronchitis, the bladder and kidneys (urinary tract), the male and female genital organs when the infections involve the cervix (neck of the womb in women), and the lower genital organs in men. Novecin can be used to treat both gonorrhea and some other genital infections of both the male and female genital organs.
Usage directions
This is a prescription-only medication, follow your doctor’s instructions about Novecin tablets with regards to how much to use, when to use it and how to use it. Your doctor will decide on how many tablets you should take and for how long. The dose will depend on the type of infection you have and where the infection is in your body, follow your doctor’s instructions. For adults (including the elderly) for most infections, the recommended dose is between 200 mg and 400 mg of Novecin daily, preferably in the morning. For more severe infections your doctor may increase the dose to 400 mg of Novecin twice daily (morning and evening).
Caution
You should not take fluoroquinolone/quinolone antibacterial medicines, including Novecin if you have experienced any serious adverse reaction in the past when taking a quinolone or fluoroquinolone. In this situation, you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. When taking Novecin, avoid strong sunlight and do not use sun lamps or solaria as your skin may be more sensitive to light.
Warnings
Do not stop taking Novecin tablets just because you feel better. You must complete the course of tablets that your doctor has prescribed for you. If you stop taking it too soon, the infection may return, your condition may get worse or the bacteria may become resistant to the medicine. To be used under medical supervision. Keep your medicine in the original packaging. Store it in a cool dry place, below 25°C. Keep it out of the reach and the sight of children.
